Following Yosemite, we drove to Sonoma to spend a few anticipated, leisurely days with Pete's parents and his uncle and aunt, Jack and Leslie. We arrived at the rental house first and promptly got to showering and doing laundry, so that we were nice and clean when the family arrived.
The house was wonderful and it did not take us long to adjust to being civilized again, with a cozy bed, daily shower, and yummy food.
Soon after everyone arrived at the house, we promptly went to a champagne wine tasting and then went to the Tuesday evening market in downtown Sonoma and bought cheeses, fruit, pastries, and other goodies.
Wednesday was dedicated to wine tasting, and we left the house around 10:30am and made it to at least six wineries before we headed home, including Domaine Carneros, Ty Caton/ Muscardini, Bundlach Gunschu, and the rest I don't remember (which means they must have been good).
Yeah, like you can still read by this time...
Once we got back to the house, Jack cooked us some lovely ribeyes for dinner, which were devoured immediately. We can't remember the last time we had steak!
On Thursday, we headed to Bodega Bay to see the ocean, visited some redwood trees (the family was afraid that we were going through wilderness withdrawal), and then hit up a couple of wineries on our way back to the house. That night we went to dinner at Bottega in Napa Valley, and had probably the best meal ever. We all even got to meet the famous chef, Michael Chiarello.
So after drinking and eating more than we had in the four weeks prior, we left Friday to head to Mt. Shasta in northern California.
