The Subway, Zion NP

On Sunday, we hiked "The Subway" in Zion National Park. It is one of the more popular routes in the park as it follows the North Fork river through some of the canyons. A permit is required for it, and luckily ours was for Sunday instead of Saturday, which got all the rain.

It starts with a brief hike, and then you have to climb down a gully to get to the river. The descent route was not obvious, but we eventually got there.

Once we got to the river, we spent the rest of the time wading and swimming. The water was between 50 and 59 degrees. Pete and I both rented wet suits. I actually changed into mine when we got to the river. Pete just kept his tied to his pack. I guess it seemed like too much trouble to change into it.

Here are some pictures of the subway. Also check out this video of Pete's reaction to how cold the water is:

We passed by some people from LA that may have been a little in over their heads. None had wet suits or harnesses to rappel, and seemed a little freaked out, so we stayed back and made sure they made it through everything. Also, there were some dinosaur tracks captured in a slab rock along the trail. They looked cooler in person, but you get the idea.

On Tuesday, we did a little climbing in the morning in St. George and then headed to the Grand Canyon.
